Description
The "Casa do Loureiro" is
a small traditional farm that aims to became an environmental
sustainable rural model. It is a meeting point for the
traditional culture, environmental practices and Nature. Organic
(biological) certification guarantees the good quality of its products:
wine, oranges, olives, chestnuts and walnuts. Sculpted granite walls
and medieval roads delimit the ancient buildings. Its construction
began on the early XVIII, improved by the end of that century.
The main works were inspired by the house style called Pombalina
(architecture style developed as a result of the great earthquake of
Lisbon, 1755). The Casa do Loureiro has been part of the heritage of
the same family for many generations. Therefore the current owners live
in the main house as a living museum of everyday life, which saves
among others, documents related with its history.
It is located in the
magnificent landscapes in the Douro valley, 50 km from the city of
Oporto.
